Petition, 1848 May 25.

When the American troops occupied Vera Cruz, Joseph Casauranc, a French merchant, asked Commodore Perry for permission to purchase firearms for himself and his friends in order to protect themselves and their property from hostile Indian attacks. On the back of the petition are two directives from Commodore Perry granting permission.
